PTC 2014-15

The PTC UK Class of 2013-14 was 28 strong. This is what they have to say…

“I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of being on the PTC. It was exactly the right thing for me in my decision to teach the piano. In my view, whilst in theory at least, anyone can set themselves up as a piano teacher: but unless you are shown how to teach or have some God given natural ability, then you are doing a disservice to your pupils and yourself. The PTC teaches you how to teach, and gives you the tools you need to be able to develop your teaching as you progress in your professional life from this excellent foundation. It is well structured, well managed, and excellent value for money. Having now completed it, I would heartily recommend it to anyone considering teaching the piano.” Stephen

“The PTC gave me the confidence to venture into areas I would not have dared tackle – such as improvisation. The resources provided were of an extremely high quality and now form what I call my Piano Teaching Bible. I learned so much in a hugely supportive and non-competitive environment. I look forward to continuing my learning at future PTC workshops.”  Sharon

“This course has given me not only a treasure trove of teaching inspiration and ideas, it has also given me the tools to develop a much more professional and business-like approach to running my teaching practice.
The pianism, repertoire and technique classes were like a mini conservatoire experience; hugely enjoyable and helpful. I feel privileged to be  part of such a supportive and friendly network of fellow students and teachers.” Claire

“The PTC has been a real game-changer for me – I can honestly say it has helped me in every aspect of my piano teaching, and it has been really inspiring and motivating.  The atmosphere is supportive and cheerful, and the chance to meet so many like-minded people has been an added bonus.” Laura

“I recently changed career and started teaching the piano. I decided to enrol on The PTC partly to gain some professional accreditation but also to obtain exposure to the knowledge and expertise of those who were widely experienced in the field. The course more than met my expectations and as it comes to an end I can reflect on the huge impact that this year has had both upon my teaching practice and also on my sense of myself as a musician. It has been a privilege to have worked with a group of tutors who are all inspiring pianists in their own right as well as people who are passionate about passing on their knowledge to the next generation of teachers.

The course has been challenging and thought provoking throughout and extremely well put together. Fellow participants have become friends as well as colleagues – invaluable in a role which can often be quite isolated. I would unreservedly recommend this course to anyone who is looking to improve their teaching approach.” Christine

“A former primary school teacher, I had developed my own approach to teaching the piano out of my own ideas on teaching and learning.  This up to date and holistic course has given me further confidence to continue and improve what I already do; and inspiration to develop further ideas and practices. The course was comprehensive and very professionally delivered, and the resources provided are excellent. I had the opportunity to reflect upon my current teaching, learn many new teaching techniques and to have supportive and encouraging feedback.

I had been considering taking The PTC for several years. I am so pleased to have finally done it as it has been a life affirming and boosting experience. My students are enthusiastically learning more and I am on a pathway of discovering the secrets of how to practise. I can’t stop playing either!!” Julie

“I found The PTC inspirational right from the beginning and really looked forward to all the study days and weekends.  I came away with loads of practical ideas to try, and my piano pupils really noticed the difference.  I also learnt a lot about my own playing and how to improve my technique.  The vibe from the tutors was always very positive and I really valued the sense of camaraderie with the other students.  I was really sad when the course was over!” Sarah

“The PTC is a fantastic way in, as you are just starting out and will learn, study and play so much over the course of the year. Plus definitely find a good teacher who can both teach you but also mentor your own teaching development too.
PS: You can try out an individual study day to get a feel of the course.” Frances
